Megan Leight, art history professor, is leading the Artful Algorithms project that could potentially change how AI learns and preserves ancient languages essential to understanding our world. Supported by a collaboration grant from the WVU Humanities Center, the project explores the impact of AI on ancient Maya glyph decipherment.

Upon his passing in 2021, Charles Bentley Hodgkin left an estate gift to establish the Charles Bentley Hodgkin Education Trust, which provides scholarships for students in the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources. Hodgkin earned bachelor’s degrees in chemical engineering and business management from WVU.
Thanks to a grant from the Les Paul Foundation, music business and industry students will continue their outreach to the community. Students will use the funds to produce a professional recording of the Westwood Middle School steel drum band and educate the young musicians about careers in the music industry, while emphasizing Paul’s involvement in the advancement of both music recordings and careers.
Faculty from the Eberly College gathered earlier this month to participate in the inaugural Foundational STEM Collaborative Symposium, a daylong event that provided many opportunities for collaboration, team building and peer learning.
For the Class of 2023, WVU Law reported 90 graduates or 87% are employed in full-time, long-term work in a bar passage required or JD advantage position. Sixty-two percent of these graduates stayed in West Virginia.
