About MOUNTAINEER E-News

MOUNTAINEER E-News, a platform run by University Relations/Communications, serves as an effective tool to communicate with WVU faculty and staff.

Available at enews.wvu.edu, MOUNTAINEER E-News is also delivered in email form each weekday, with holiday exceptions.

Once subscribed, MOUNTAINEER E-News readers have the option to customize what they receive in the daily email.

At the bottom of each MOUNTAINEER E-News email, users can select “Edit preferences” and designate specific categories. Changes should be saved by clicking “Update profile.”

After changes are made, the email will include the day’s featured item at the top followed by new entries from selected categories.

You may edit or update your preferences as often as you like.

Please note: The MOUNTAINEER E-News editorial team will place posts in only one category which best reflects the topic area.

  • Announcements (High-level messages from or about the University, posts that involve multiple Colleges or units, posts involving units not affiliated with a College such as Administration, Student Life, Alumni Association, WVU Extension Service, WVU Foundation, etc.)
  • Events (University-wide events as well as those for units not affiliated with a College such as Administration, Student Life, Alumni Association, WVU Extension Service, WVU Foundation, etc.)
  • Colleges (News, information and events related to specific Colleges and Schools including Potomac State College and WVU Institute of Technology)
  • Health (News, information and events related to Schools within the WVU Health Sciences campuses and WVU Medicine)
  • Research (News, information and events related to research at the University including research within Colleges and Schools and health related research)
  • Athletics (News, information and events from WVU Sports)
  • In the News (News links curated by University Relations/Communications staff featuring WVU experts, thought leaders, students and other members of the University community along with WVU research, discoveries and other items of note)

Posts of high importance or interest to the University community will be included in the top section of the email which everyone will receive regardless of preference settings.

If there are no items in a particular category, you will see the message “There are no posts in this category today.”

E-News submission guidelines

  • For an item to be considered for MOUNTAINEER E-News, it must involve an official WVU unit, or have some other direct connection to the University and its related organizations or initiatives. While in some instances, E-News will feature an event that is hosted at a WVU facility, just being held at WVU is not sufficient reason to be included. The final decision to include or not include an announcement in E-News is at the discretion of the editors.
  • Send items directly to enews@mail.wvu.edu. E-News is handled by different individuals, so sending to enews@mail.wvu.edu will ensure it is seen by the editor.
  • Items for E-News are intended for University faculty, staff and administrators. Announcements for students should be directed to mix@mail.wvu.edu. These submissions will be published on the WVU Students website.
  • Concise notices are best. Links to longer versions of a story or additional resources, including photos, are helpful. Please include a descriptive headline; date, time and place; brief description of event, award, etc.; contact; RSVP date, if applicable; and the specific date when the E-News notice should run. NOTE: E-News staff members try to accommodate requests to run announcements multiple times but posts usually won’t run more than once a week and not more than twice total.
  • Use our submission form to submit to E-News. The submission deadline is at least 48 hours ahead of the requested publication date.
  • Job openings are not included in E-News. Please direct this information to Talent and Culture at employment@mail.wvu.edu.
  • E-News does not accept solicitations or fundraising requests, except as in accordance with the University’s Concessions and Solicitation Policy.
  • The MOUNTAINEER E-News email will be distributed once daily, during mid-morning. The companion website will be updated daily.
  • If events require, such as in a campus emergency, announcements will be sent immediately. Check your E-News subscription: ur@mail.wvu.edu.
