Jay Manown Story

Preston County native Jay Manown’s college career at WVU was cut short just before his graduation when he was drafted into World War II. He became a naval flight instructor, and on Sept. 10, 1944, the Japanese hit the belly of his plane, sending it in a violent spiral into the sea. His plane and the bodies of the crew were recovered 10 years ago.
