Groups compete in the WVU LaunchLab pitch event  

In a groundbreaking new partnership, the WVU LaunchLab Network partnered with AlphaLab Gear to hold a pitch competition for WVU students and alumni. The winner of the competition earned a coveted slot in the semi-final selection round for the AlphaLab Gear Hardware Cup, which boasts a $50,000 grand prize. The Hardware Cup’s goal is “to find and highlight the most promising physical product startups in the nation,” and West Virginia University’s innovations are very promising.

Multiple discussions about revised academic policies going into effect for the academic year 2019-20 were discussed over the fall 2018 semester. These WVU Academic Policy Changes are now finalized and will be going into place starting in fall 2019.

 Bertrand Gaschot, a master’s student in the department of geology and geography, uses MOVE to create 3D geological maps and build models of West Virginia’s complex geology.  

For more than a decade, geology students have used the same advanced software used by oil and gas companies worldwide, expanding their marketability for industry jobs. Petroleum Experts Limited has furthered this access with an in-kind gift of its MOVE software, valued at $2.2 million.

Join us for the two-day NFL Madden Tournament Jan. 26, 11 a.m.- 8 p.m., and Jan. 27, noon-4 p.m., CPASS building, rooms 101-104. The tournament includes a 64-person bracket, with the winner of each round advancing in the winner-take-all format. Registration is $20 per person, with the grand prize of $500 for the winner.

Olivia Canoy, a senior criminal justice major at West Virginia University Potomac State College, was recently awarded the prestigious Judith A. Herndon Legislative Fellowship. Canoy is spending the 2019 spring semester in Charleston, W.Va. interning for Delegate Danny Hamrick during the West Virginia Legislative session. Only 10 students in the state were chosen to receive the award.
