Undergraduate students who exemplify the values and ideals taught by Martin Luther King Jr. are invited to apply for the scholarship by Dec. 13. The award recognizes active interest and involvement in areas of social justice, civil rights and world peace.
The prestigious award is presented annually to a resident of West Virginia who best exemplifies the values and ideals taught by Martin Luther King Jr. The award recipient will be announced during the 2025 MLK Unity Breakfast slated for 9:30 a.m. Jan. 18 in the Mountainlair Ballrooms.
If Stumptown Ales owner Cindy Robeson got a college experience do-over, she’d pick West Virginia University without hesitation. Her confidence in that choice, she said, comes from watching three of her children blossom on the Morgantown Campus.
Jayne Anne Phillips writes about what she knows best — her home state of West Virginia — but the recent Pulitzer Prize for Fiction winner said she feels being a writer is complicated. “I think the writer is an interior being and there is a need for encouragement and insight from others. I definitely received that at WVU during my college years,” Phillips said.
