Barnes and Noble’s First Day® Complete program returns for the Spring 2025 semester, which provides course materials at a lower cost to undergraduate students.
The opt-out period for First Day® Complete begins today (Dec. 9) and ends Jan. 24. Undergraduate students registered for classes this spring are automatically enrolled in the program, which provides required materials — including textbooks — to students at a lower cost and ensures that students have access to their materials by the first day of classes.
Before opting out of the program, students are encouraged to compare the flat fee of the program ($360 for full-time undergraduate students and $168 for part-time undergraduate students) to the total retail cost of their course materials if purchased outside the program.
To compare costs through STAR, they should follow these steps:
-
Log into WVU Portal and click on “STAR.”
-
Click on the “Student Services & Housing” tab.
-
Select “Registration Menu.”
-
Select “WVU.”
-
Select “Spring 2025 Opt Out” from the pull-down menu.
-
Select a format from the list of available formats for each title, such as new, used, rental, or digital. If a format is not listed, it is not available in that particular format.
-
Follow routine online checkout procedures to enter your personal information and select your payment type. At this time, they can see the pricing for each title.
Students can also price compare through the WVU Bookstore website by using the following steps:
-
Visit the Course Material Finder on the WVU Bookstore website.
-
Select your campus.
-
Select the Spring Opt-Out Term.
-
Enter your course information.
If the program's flat fee exceeds what the student would pay to purchase their course materials individually, they can opt out of the program for the Spring semester.
