A joint effort led by West Virginia University and Marshall University, the West Virginia Grant Resource Centers are helping bring millions of dollars in critical grant funding to West Virginia communities, with 2024 marking their most impactful year yet.

Through hands-on support, expert training and statewide engagement, the Centers helped secure more than $14.7 million in grant awards in 2024 alone. These 61 awards fuel projects in infrastructure, economic development, workforce development, outdoor recreation and community revitalization. In total, the efforts supported the creation or retention of 145 West Virginia jobs.

WVU representative Liz Vitullo and Marshall representative Sara Payne Scarbro, who co-founded the initiative, celebrated the release of the 2024 Impact Report as a reflection of what’s possible when the state’s largest institutions work together.

“In partnership with the universities, we are proud to operationalize our expertise to entities throughout the state to advance economic prosperity. This funding is an amazing milestone, and we are so excited about what the dollars represent: infrastructure enhancements, workforce initiatives, entrepreneurial support, educational programs and other inspiring developments,” Vitullo said.

In 2024, the Grant Centers trained more than 1,400 individuals through in-person and virtual events. The team hosted 38 trainings statewide, including workshops, webinars, and two new microcredential courses in grant writing.

To date, the Centers have helped West Virginians secure more than $44 million in funding and supported 180 jobs across the state.
