WVU provides salary adjustment to offset PEIA employee premium increases

Woodburn Hall

In response to recent increases to West Virginia Public Employees Insurance Agency insurance premiums for Plan Year 2024, West Virginia University is adjusting the base salaries for employees who carry PEIA health benefits, effective Sunday, Aug. 13.

Increases through the WVU PEIA Premium Offset Salary Adjustment will be reflected on the Sept. 8 pay statements for employees who meet eligibility requirements, which include:

·         The employee must be in a WVU benefits-eligible faculty, FE/AP, non-classified or classified position*.

·         The employee must have elected to carry PEIA/Health Plan insurance with WVU as of July 1, 2023.

·         The employee must be on WVU payroll as of June 30, 2023, and remain on payroll through Aug. 13, 2023.

These salary adjustments are being financed using money provided by the state to offset PEIA insurance premium increases for state employees.

Eligible WVU faculty and staff will receive the difference in their premium increase based on the July 1, 2023, enrolled plan rates from FY2023 to FY2024 up to a maximum of $1,000. The offset in premium salary adjustment will not include the PEIA spousal surcharge and will not consider the tobacco-free discount.

Faculty and staff who are receiving a salary adjustment will get an email to their WVU account from Benefits Strategy, centralba@mail.wvu.edu, later today (July 31) with more information.

Prior to Wednesday, Aug. 9, those who are receiving a premium adjustment are encouraged to review their current salary information in the Applaud HR system by following these instructions. Employees can view their adjusted salary in Applaud beginning Monday, Aug. 14.

Note: Only an employee’s current salary is displayed in Applaud. Therefore, faculty and staff who are receiving a salary adjustment will be unable to view their prior salary in Applaud after Aug. 9.
