WVU performance review process begins in January, prep workshops offered for supervisors

Following postponements in the summer and fall as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Division of Talent and Culture plans to roll out the 2020 performance review process early next year for classified and non-classified staff and certain FE/AP employees.

Performance reviews will begin in mid-to-late January with the employee pre-review process. Once the pre-reviews have been processed, supervisors will complete performance reviews for their team members. And after all levels of approval are obtained, supervisors will share the performance review results with their employees later in the spring.

The complete timeline with key dates for 2020 performance reviews will be shared when the process begins next month.

To help people-leaders prepare for performance reviews, the Employee Relations team is offering a series of virtual workshops for supervisors. The sessions will cover performance management basics and how supervisors can best manage employee expectations.

Topics of discussion will include how to plan for performance conversations and a review of best practices, such as tips to engage employees using employee check-ins. We also will provide a self-assessment of a supervisor’s performance management knowledge and additional tools to aid in providing feedback to employees.

Supervisors will receive an email from EmployeeRelations@mail.wvu.edu with more information and instructions for registering for the workshops.

We look forward to seeing supervisors in the workshops and beginning the performance review process early next year. In the meantime, thank you for continuing to live our Mountaineer Values and for everything you do to move WVU forward during these unusual times.
