To offer convenience to faculty, staff, students and visitors who own electric vehicles, the WVU Office of Sustainability and Parking Management teams have partnered with Greenspot to install electric vehicle charging stations in the upper level parking garage at the Mountainlair (lot ST-2) and at the Mountaineer Station parking garage (lot ST-3).
Both lots are equipped with a total of six EV charging parking spots.
Four of the six spaces are labeled as “dual use,” meaning they can be used for EV charging or regular parking, while the remaining two spaces are EV parking only.
Greenspot charging stations are compatible with the widely adopted NACS standard, but vehicles using the CCS standard can also be charged by using an adapter.
To use the Greenspot charging stations, download the “Greenspot EV Charging” or “EV Connect” mobile app for Apple or Android. Users can make an account if they plan to use the charging stations often or continue in guest mode.
To begin charging a vehicle, plug in the Level 2 connector and prepare the vehicle to charge. Then, open the app, scan the QR code on the charger, review the info and select “Begin Charging.” Users can monitor their charging progress via the app.
In addition to paying for charging, which the vendor has set at $0.39 per kilowatt-hour, drivers must pay the applicable short-term WVU parking fee if they do not have a permit for that lot. Users can expect to pay $12-$25 per charging session with Greenspot.
If an EV is plugged into a charger but the driver has not initiated a charging session or if the EV has completed its charging session but is still plugged in after a 30-minute grace period, the vendor will charge an idle parking fee. The WVU Parking Management team will issue citations for non-EVs parked in EV-only spaces and for any vehicles (EV or non-EV) parked in these spaces without being plugged into a charger.
