Starting Sunday, Aug. 30, all services that require a Virtual Private Network connection when working remotely will be grouped together in a new Restricted Apps section of portal.wvu.edu. This does not affect the functionality of these applications. The new grouping is intended to make clear which applications require a VPN when you are not on campus.
This change only affects the employee view; faculty, student and admit views of the Portal won’t change. Links to services that don’t require secure VPN access will remain where they are.
Most employees working off campus can access what they need using their home internet service, but the VPN replicates the on-campus experience for those who need to connect to restricted resources. You do not need a VPN to access email, calendars or anything else in the Office 365 suite, including Microsoft Teams. You also do not need to use the VPN to access the Restricted Apps if you are working on campus. See more ther resources for working remotely and at it.wvu.edu/help.
Users at the Health Sciences Center should refer to HSC resources for remote-access for questions.
Tabs in the new Restricted Apps section will mirror existing labels to make the links easy to find: Administrative, MyHR, Academic and Research. Links being moved to this new section are:
