Employees and students who want free anti-virus protection for personally owned devices should now install Sophos, the replacement product for Kaspersky. WVU’s license with Kaspersky ends in August. After that date, you will either have to pay Kaspersky for software updates or replace it with the free version of Sophos.
To download Sophos, go to freeav.wvu.edu. After providing your WVU email address, Sophos will send an activation code and account setup instructions. ITS recommends registering your Sophos account with a personal email address, which can be used to manage your personal devices. Install the software on as many as three personally-owned devices.
ITS is installing Sophos on University-owned machines in close coordination with college and division IT directors. Employees should not independently remove their current anti-virus protection or install Sophos on WVU machines.
