Starting today (July 8), ITS will begin assigning the @wvu.edu domain to new employees and “shared mailboxes” as part of an initiative to better align the University’s digital presence with our primary institutional brand.
What to expect
New employees will be assigned a primary email address in the @wvu.edu domain along with a corresponding alias in the @mail.wvu.edu domain to ensure seamless access to services and processes that rely on the @mail.wvu.edu suffix.
Current employees will also be assigned a new alias in the @wvu.edu domain, though their primary email addresses will remain unchanged with @mail.wvu.edu at this time.
In addition, all new “shared mailboxes” will also use the @wvu.edu domain. Existing shared mailboxes will continue to use the @mail.wvu.edu domain.
A plan to transition primary email addresses of employee and shared mailboxes is underway. Email owners will be informed once a timeline is set and plans progress.
ITS will continue to evaluate options and approaches to ensure changes are implemented smoothly.
Employees on the Health Sciences area of campus are not impacted and will continue using @hsc.wvu.edu email accounts.
