Oct. 1 is the preparation day for the annual Rocky Habitat Restoration involves gathering dead and downed branches from designated areas of the Coopers Rock State Forest to create a “material depot” that will be used Oct. 7 during the Rocky Habitat Restoration Project Event Day.

The committee of faculty, staff, students and community members working to attain the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree Campus USA designation has made strides toward its goal since announcing the effort in April.
Emily St. John Mandel, the author of “Station Eleven,” will read from her award-winning novel and talk with Ryan Claycomb, director of the Campus Read and interim director of the Humanities Center.
Volunteers will meet at the student recreation center Sept. 25 at 3 p.m. then travel to the Star City Park, hop in canoes, and paddle along the Mon River to clean up the trash that has been littered in the river.
This month during Fall Family Weekend, Campus Recreation is teaming up with the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life to sponsor the inaugural Family Fun Run 5K. This event will be held Saturday, Sept. 29 and will begin at 9 a.m.
Leadership and Organization Development is offering a course designed for managers, leads, assistant directors, directors and other in similar positions to increase knowledge on meeting expectations and managing up. The course will be offered from 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 20 in the Shenandoah Room at the Mountainlair.
