WVU Medicine and the Rockefeller family announced today that they have appointed neuroscientist Ali Rezai, M.D. to lead the comprehensive and integrated clinical and research programs in the neurosciences at West Virginia University and WVU Medicine. He will do so at the newly formed West Virginia University Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute.

A team of researchers, including, Bruce M. Rothschild, M.D., a professor of medicine in WVU’s School of Medicine, recently uncovered a unique diagnosis for a dinosaur 78 million years after its death.
Praveen Majjigapu, a doctoral student in civil engineering at West Virginia University, is a finalist in the Collegiate Inventors Competition, an annual competition that rewards innovations, discoveries and research by college and university students and their faculty advisors. He will present his invention — NextGen Structural Rehab System — to a panel of final-round judges on Nov. 2.
West Virginia University professors Paul Ziemkiewicz, Shikha Sharma and Tim Carr will present research on technology in the shale industry at the Shale Insight Conference on Wednesday, Sept. 27 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
It’s been 155 years since land-grant higher education was born in the throes of the Civil War, and while the institution is as strong as ever, education itself has changed, prompting West Virginia University to create the Center for the Future of Land-Grant Education. The Center, the nation’s first devoted to the study of land-grants, will launch on Thursday (Sept. 28) with a panel of higher education experts. The event will take place at 4 p.m. at the Erickson Alumni Center.
A West Virginia University researcher has been recently awarded $1.6 million to conduct research on how harmful inflammation can be targeted without disrupting normal immune function. Gordon Meares was selected by the National Institutes of Health to receive the funding over the next five years.
