Nianqiang “Nick” Wu, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at West Virginia University, has been named the George B. Berry Chair of Engineering, effective Jan. 1.

WVU is home to about 28,000 students from all over the world. Julio Nakasato is one international student who is proud to be a Mountaineer, approximately 2,100 miles away in Panama. After earning his sport management master's degree (2016), Nakasato worked for Under Armour as a marketing manager in Peru. He will now head to Panama as Under Armour’s Latin American brand marketing running manager.

Charles “Chuck” Neel, professor emeritus at West Virginia University’s School of Theatre and Dance, passed away Jan. 14. Neel was an influential member of the School of Theatre & Dance faculty, helping to start the careers of hundreds of alumni including Chris Sarandon, academy award nominee, and Morgantown-native David Selby.

The Mountaineer Racing team recently received a $30,000 award from the DENSO North America Foundation in support of the development of an engine dynamometer testing facility. The facility will be used to test and tune the team’s racing engines.

Artist Peter Saul’s recent paintings, Man with Secret, 2016, and Buddy, 2018, will be the focus of the next Art Up Close! at the Museum Education Center Feb. 20.
