The Health Sciences Innovation Center, in partnership with the IDEA Hub, encourages faculty, staff and students to attend the 9th annual West Virginia Bioscience Summit as a part of WVU Demo Day April 25. Faculty, staff and students interested in West Virginia’s biotech industry, discussions on strategies to grow life science businesses in the region and how to utilize Opportunity Zones should attend. Registration is free of charge for students with a valid ID.

The Eberly Writing Studio is offering a Summer Dissertation Writing Retreat during the week of May 20. The retreat is open to any dissertating doctoral student at WVU.
The one-day symposium, supported through the Drs. Paul and Laura Mesaros lectureship endowment, brought family medicine, research and oral health experts together to emphasize the need for providers, across disciplines, to work together in diagnosing and treating both diabetes and periodontal disease.
Professor Jenny Johnson has been named a 2019 National Endowment for Arts Creative Writing Fellow. An assistant professor in the Department of English, she is using the award to write and do research toward her second book of poems.
The hosting academic conference grants competition has reopened. These grants are for conferences between July 1, 2019 and June 30, 2020 and are for a focused academic mini-conference or to host regional, national, or international disciplinary meetings.
Leslie Tower, professor of social work at West Virginia University, found in a nationally representative survey that female social work faculty make less than their male counterparts by nearly $6,000 a year in spite of the fact that women are the majority in the profession.
