West Virginia leads the nation in overdose deaths, but distinguishing intentional overdoses from accidental ones is far from straightforward. To shed light on the matter, Ian Rockett—a professor emeritus of the WVU School of Public Health’s Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics—led a national study to examine interstate characteristics associated with high rates of self-injury mortality.

The WVU gymnastics team returns home for the first time since January to play host to Pitt and Texas Woman's today (Feb. 11) inside the WVU Coliseum at 7 p.m. The Women's Empowerment Meet will feature special promotions and videos throughout the meet to promote women's involvement in sports.

The Big 12 Conference and ESPN have announced that the West Virginia University women's basketball game against Texas on Sunday, Feb. 20, will now air on ESPN2. Originally slated as an ESPNU broadcast, the Mountaineers and Longhorns will tip off at noon inside the WVU Coliseum.

The Loyola Project  

In celebration of Black History Month, WVU is one of 63 universities selected to screen the documentary film “The Loyola Project,” which is presented by Northwestern Mutual and features the Loyola Ramblers of Chicago who broke racial barriers and changed college basketball forever. The Office of Student Success will host this screening Thursday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m. in the Mountainlair’s Gluck Theatre.
