Announcements
The West Virginia University Board of Governors met Friday (Dec. 20) kicking off a Commencement weekend of events on the Morgantown Campus.
On Thursday (Dec. 19), Gov. Jim Justice issued two proclamations declaring Tuesday (Dec. 24) and Tuesday, Dec. 31, as full-day state holidays for public employees. Since WVU already observes Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 as holidays, the University has modified its holiday calendar and will combine the two extended half-day state holidays to observe them on Friday, Dec. 27.
MOUNTAINEER E-News will be on hiatus from Tuesday (Dec. 24) through Wednesday, Jan. 1, during the winter break. There will be no planned editions on these dates, including Dec. 30 when the University is open for business.
The Mountaineer Maniacs make their presence known through a multitude of well-known cheers and chants, from “Let’s go, Mountaineers!” to the “First Down!” chant that vibrates inside Milan Puskar Stadium after a big play.
Izaak Whetsell, a junior from Elkins, and Audrianna Shifflett, a freshman from Craigsville, are among 24 students to benefit from a recent $100,000 gift made by WVU alumnus Andrew S. Good. His namesake scholarship goes to full-time West Virginia undergraduate students with a minimum 3.0 GPA and financial need who have demonstrated a commitment to community service.
