The Office of the Provost is accepting nominations of candidates for honorary doctoral degrees at WVU to be awarded at Commencement exercises in May 2025. Nomination packets are due to the Office of the Provost by Friday, Oct. 4.

The Provost invites all members of the University community — faculty, staff, students and alumni — to consider nominating exceptional people who have made outstanding contributions to their field and society. The honorary degree is the highest distinction WVU bestows.
Six faculty members and one graduate student were recently named recipients of the Travis Stimeling Award for Mentoring Undergraduates in Research. Sponsored by the Office of Undergraduate Research and the Office of the Provost, the award serves to recognize and reward faculty and graduate students who encourage and support undergraduates in making an original intellectual or creative contribution to their discipline.
Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to come out and celebrate WVU Adviser Appreciation Day today (April 23). There will be plenty of opportunities available to show your appreciation in person and virtually to those who help ensure WVU students are successful in and out of the classroom.
As West Virginia University marks Adviser Appreciation Day today (April 23), results show investments designed to enhance the University’s academic advising community and culture are paying off when it comes to student success.
Each year, at the direction of the Office of the Provost, the Academic Advising Council selects honorees for the Nicholas Evans Awards for Advising Excellence in recognition of outstanding advising and mentoring provided by faculty and professional advisers at WVU. The 2024 award recipients are Amanda Baker, Kelli George, Tara Robbins and Mark Schraf.
