Departments and offices on the Morgantown Campus recycled more than 10 tons of books and paper materials in mid-March as part of a periodic book recycling effort hosted by the WVU Office of Sustainability — double the amount collected when this opportunity was last offered on campus.
During this recycling drive, the WVU Roads and Grounds team collected directly from campus locations, and books were sent to a regional recycling facility.
Hardback books cannot be accepted in regular daily recycling on campus.
“Our office tries to offer opportunities to recycle items that aren’t accepted in our daily recycling stream when we can, and in addition to these 20,000 pounds of books, we also recycle hundreds of tons of items like electronics, surplus furniture and shredded confidential documents every year,” said Stephanie Toothman, conservation specialist in the Office of Sustainability.
The campus community will next have the opportunity to divert goods from landfills by donating to the 20th annual Blue and Gold Mine Sale slated for May 17 at Milan Puskar Stadium. This student move-out sale benefits the WVU United Way campaign
