The billing process for departmental costs incurred through the WVU Managed Printing program has been streamlined with the start of the new fiscal year.
Using funding strings that departments provide, Information Technology Services will calculate monthly spend on printing and copying, and roll those costs into the monthly telecommunications bill. Units won’t receive printing invoices for processing in Mountaineer Marketplace. The charges will be deducted directly from the funding string provided for Managed Printing.
For the first time since 2005, per-page prices have increased by about a half-cent. Black-and-white copies that previously cost 3.9 cents per page are now 4.5 cents per page. The color per-page cost has risen from 8.8 cents to 9.5 cents. ITS was able to minimize the cost increase by negotiating a new paper contract and printing to fewer, more cost-effective devices.
The transition to centralized printing is also saving students money. On July 1, per-page costs for MyPrinting dropped from six cents to 4.5 cents per black-and-white page, and from 25 cents to 9.5 cents per color page.
Installation of new Managed Printing devices across the WVU System will continue through mid-November, with academic and administrative departments typically receiving at least one week’s notice of the change. ITS notifies WVU building supervisors when printer installations are scheduled and provides them with details on the quantity and locations of the new multi-function devices. At the Health Sciences Center, ITS tries to coordinate with departmental contacts.
Machine locations are determined by historical use data and machines may not be moved by anyone other than ITS or vendor employees. It is up to the building supervisors to ensure all occupants are notified of the removals and installations; ITS does not have this capability. Building supervisors also collect user and funding string information as part of this process.
