A new mark for student engagement and participation was set by Adventure WV’s student programming segments earlier this year. Comprising guided trips, the WVU Climbing Wall, and the Well-Being Adventure Series, Adventure WV offers a vast array of student programming experiences each semester.
In a concerted effort to be student-focused, Adventure WV has adapted its programming to focus on short, affordable social activities. This shift has led to a rise in student engagement this year with more than 750 program registrations — a 40% increase from the previous year.
While Adventure WV continues to offer outdoor adventure experiences such as whitewater rafting, mountain biking, backpacking and climbing, the program has observed significant growth in registrations for activities emphasizing community building among peers.
These activities, which include Backcountry Baking, Road Trips to the New River Gorge, Tour of the Night Sky and Starry Night Floats, are designed to foster social connections while providing accessible and enjoyable experiences. Many of these popular trips incorporate local restaurants and community amenities, such as the Morgantown Farmers Market, further enhancing the sense of community among participants.
In addition to new guided trips, the increase in registrations also reflects Adventure WV's diverse range of offerings, including the Well-Being Adventure Series and Climbing Wall activities. By strategically focusing on affordability and expanding activity options, Adventure WV has successfully aligned its programming with student interests and feedback, contributing to the program’s continued growth and success.
Adventure WV extends a warm invitation to faculty, staff and students to participate in its unique and enriching activities, emphasizing that no prior experience is necessary.
