Google security update may require re-sharing or re-requesting file access starting next month

A Google Drive security update may change the way that faculty, staff and students access some files starting Monday, Sept. 13. If you have previously given others access to a file, folder or shared drive via URL, that URL may change, and people may need to request access to view it.

Google file types such as Google Docs, Sheets, Slides and Forms will NOT be affected by this change.

To see whether you have any files that are affected, go to drive.google.com/drive/my-drive. If you see a blue security update banner at the top of the page, you can select the “See files” link to generate a list. When you reshare your affected files or grant access again, the new security protection will be automatically applied.

Google began emailing users in July about this change, which will affect accounts at different times between now and the end of September. The affected files will be visible for 30 days from receipt of that email. After 30 days, use advanced search to find your affected files
