REMINDER: 2020 Performance Review process to begin Feb. 1

The Division of Talent and Culture will roll out WVU’s 2020 performance review process on Monday (Feb. 1) for classified and non-classified staff and certain FE/AP employees.

The 2020 performance review period will cover July 1, 2019, through Dec. 31, 2020.

Aligned to WVU’s core values, the annual performance review process is designed to measure an employee’s capabilities, accomplishments, development and overall contributions to the University as well as the critical role each employee plays in bringing our land-grant mission to life.

Throughout the past year, we have seen countless examples of employees across WVU going above and beyond to support our campus community and help us navigate challenges related to COVID-19. As such, supervisors and employees should consider any accomplishments that may have occurred outside an employee’s typical job duties when completing this year’s performance reviews.

Further, when completing reviews, supervisors should not hold employees accountable for any time away from work as a result of WVU’s temporary furlough program.

Beginning Monday, eligible employees (those hired prior to July 1, 2020) will receive an email to their WVU account from the performance management system along with instructions to complete a pre-review in the system. The pre-review is optional but strongly recommended. 

Note: As part of this year’s process, WVU Research Corp. employees will use the standard Research Corp. performance management system for completing their reviews.

Employees will need their WVU login information and Duo two-factor authentication enabled on their computer, phone or mobile device to access the performance management system.

The pre-reviews will remain open through Friday, Feb. 12. However, once a pre-review has been submitted, it cannot be retracted or modified.

Once the pre-reviews have been processed, supervisors will complete performance reviews for their team members. 

Supervisors and employees should be prepared to discuss potential future remote work options as part of WVU’s annual performance review process. The Employee Relations team will share additional details — including guidelines for supervisors to facilitate these discussions — in the near future.

After all levels of approval are obtained, supervisors will share the performance review results with their employees in late March through mid-April. 

To help people-leaders prepare for performance reviews, the Employee Relations team will offer additional virtual workshops in the coming weeks for supervisors who were unable to attend the sessions in December. Supervisors should monitor their email for more information and instructions for registering for the workshops.
