Leadership and Organization Development team offers supervisors new ways to 'lead forward'

New Employee

As WVU prepares to return to campus for the fall semester, the Leadership and Organization Development team recognizes many people-leaders will face new challenges in leading and engaging their teams. That’s why we are developing several new resources to support supervisors and strengthen our culture:

  • The Leading Forward Resource Guide for the Accountable Leader includes numerous topics that are top of mind for supervisors as many of their team members return to campus while others will continue to work remotely. We will add topics to the guide as they become relevant. If there is a topic you would like to see included, please contact us at lod@mail.wvu.edu. We also will be providing virtual training on many of the subjects covered in the guide.

  • We are partnering with subject matter experts to update content in our Leadership Essentials/Leadership Development trainings. These offerings traditionally were instructor led; however, we are converting delivery of these trainings to a virtual format. We also are exploring whether the popular CliftonStrengths training can be converted to an online format. In addition, you will begin to see more just-in-time training (e.g., webinars, toolkits, microlearning and other tools) for supervisors and employees. Stay tuned to ENEWS for the latest.

  • We realize recognition and appreciation can be particularly difficult for supervisors during this time and want to remind people of its importance. To help, we are working on innovative ways to continue the WVU Values Coin program and other recognition programs within our current working environment. We also will be adding a new batch of e-cards to the Go Beyond employee recognition portal.

Throughout the past several months, we have seen countless examples of our campus community coming together to further WVU’s land-grant mission and help our fellow West Virginians in their time of need. And our supervisors are no exception. People-leaders across the University have responded to the events related to COVID-19 by becoming more flexible, creating greater efficiency and having greater focus on the work that matters most.

As we approach the fall, we are confident our supervisors will continue to place the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff at the forefront of everything they do and lean on our Mountaineer Values as they lead forward through these uncertain times.
