Updates to WVU’s record retention schedule

The Woodburn clock tower.

WVU recently updated its record retention schedule to reflect the transition from paper-based processes to the MyExpenses system for the reconciliation of PCard expenses.

Additionally, a handful of minor updates to the schedule were made to more accurately list the proper custodian/location of certain records (i.e., documents and other material made or received in connection with WVU’s operations) related to student immunization and community outreach.

As a reminder, the University enacted a record retention policy earlier this year to provide faculty and staff guidance on the maintenance and retention of records. The policy is designed to help WVU remain compliant with federal and state laws and regulations related to the retention of records. The policy also is intended to help us be more efficient by reducing the unnecessary storage of records.

The University will continue to update the Record Retention Schedule as necessary based on institutional need. If any units require further changes or modifications to the schedule, they should contact the General Counsel’s Office at legalservices@mail.wvu.edu.
