Leadership and Organization Development is offering a program that will help supervisors establish themselves quickly in their new roles and help them avoid the common mistakes new supervisors make in managing former peers. The workshop takes place from 8:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Sept. 20 in the Shenandoah Room at the Mountainlair.

Effective group work doesn’t just happen. It takes careful thought and planning. “Engaging Students: Tapping into the Powers of Group Work” shows you how. In this webinar, Todd Hamrick, Teaching Associate Professor of Engineering, will discuss ways to design and use group activities to optimize the learning process while avoiding some of the common pitfalls.

The Old Hemlock Foundation, an official partner of the WVU Center for Service and Learning, will host its bi-annual open house tours on Sunday (Sept. 16) at Old Hemlock, 17098 Brandonville Pike in Bruceton Mills. Tours begin at 1 p.m. and conclude at 4 p.m. The event is free to anyone who attends.

One hundred years ago, as people celebrated the end of the First World War, the deadly second wave of the Spanish Flu impacted the United States. Join Lori Hostuttler and Catherine Rakowski Sept. 18 at 4 p.m. in the West Virginia & Regional History Center for an open discussion about how West Virginia and the region were impacted by these tremendous situations.
