The West Virginia International Piano Competition and Festival will bring pianists from around the world to Morgantown March 22–24. Twenty-seven semifinalists from China, Canada, Russia, Korea, Vietnam and the United States will perform in the competition portions of the festival. More than $10,000 in prize money is up for grabs, as well as concert engagements.

On Thursday, April 4, WVU Tech’s Appalachian Writers’ Lecture will feature renowned author and essayist, Ann Pancake. The lecture will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the Carter Hall auditorium. Known for her distinctive writing style and her Appalachian settings and characters, the award-winning Pancake will share and discuss some of her work, including her 2015 collection of novellas and short stories Me and My Daddy Listen to Bob Marley.
The flexible curriculum of multidisciplinary studies, which is a combination of three minors, enables students to design their educational program of study. This customization provides them with comparatively broad career options in diverse fields such as education, journalism, law, biotechnology, and computers to name a few.
The John Chambers College of Business and Economics will expand its Finance University, a financial literacy conference open to primary and secondary educators across the state, thanks to a grant from Next Gen Personal Finance to the Center for Financial Literacy and Education.
A new interdisciplinary minor in Appalachian Studies will be available for all undergraduate students on the Morgantown campus beginning in Fall 2019. The minor includes coursework in the arts, humanities, sciences, and social sciences and is intended to help students develop a broad understanding of the many ways that people think about Appalachia.
