The College of Creative Arts launched a statewide musical talent competition this week in an effort to promote the arts in the Mountain State. Talent West Virginia, sponsored by WVU Medicine and WVU Health Systems, is open to West Virginia residents and college students attending a West Virginia institution. The competition has two categories - professional, for competitors 18 and up, and junior, for competitors 14 - 17.

A field trip to Namibia to study volcanic rocks led to an unexpected discovery by geologists Graham Andrews and Sarah Brown. While exploring the desert country in southern Africa, they stumbled upon a peculiar land formation—flat desert scattered with hundreds of long, steep hills. They quickly realized the bumpy landscape was shaped by drumlins, a type of hill often found in places once covered in glaciers, an abnormal characteristic for desert landscapes.
WVU Shared Research Facilities Electron Microscopy Facilities will host its next seminar featuring 3D X-ray microscopy at 10 a.m. Feb. 8 in ESB 115A/B on the Evansdale Campus.
The highly competitive program provides funding and opportunities for students who want to pursue careers in cancer research. Each student receives a $4,000 stipend to cover living expenses and accommodation in Morgantown. Students are responsible for securing housing. Additional $1,000 is provided for research supplies to the host lab.
