The community is invited to celebrate West Virginia’s 160th birthday on June 20 at the Downtown Library, Milano Reading Room. The featured speaker is historian Scott MacKenzie, author of “The Fifth Border State: Slavery, Emancipation, and the Formation of West Virginia, 1829-1872."

The Summer Acting Academy is a one-week professional theatre training program for young actors, ages 7 to 17, who wish to explore and develop their skills in all areas of performance. All classes take place at the Canady Creative Arts Center.
The WVU Faculty Senate will meet via Zoom at 3:15 p.m. on Monday (June 5). Additional summer meetings are scheduled for July 10, Aug. 7 and Aug. 28.
Open to young people between the ages of 14 and 17, the camp will be held June 17-22 at the State Fire Academy at WVU Jackson’s Mill in Weston.
The program, offered by the WVU Extension Family Nutrition Program, is open to all children ages 2 to 17 and allows kids to “shop” for free fruits and vegetables at participating retail locations.
While the nation faces a shortage of firefighters, the camp will help prepare the next generation of firefighters and emergency operations personnel, ages 14-17, with real-life scenarios and experience June 17-22 at WVU Jackson’s Mill.
