Bingyun Li, a professor in the Department of Orthopaedics, is among five distinguished researchers nationwide to be selected as a Fellow of the Orthopaedic Research Society in recognition of his decades-long commitment to advancing orthopaedic research.

The designation is the highest honor conferred by the organization, recognizing members for leadership, expertise and outstanding contributions to musculoskeletal research and the Orthopaedic Research Society.

“I am deeply honored to be named an ORS Fellow alongside such outstanding colleagues,” Li said. “This recognition reflects the collective efforts of my students, collaborators, colleagues, staff and departmental and institutional leaders who have supported and contributed to our research mission.”

His research focuses on nanomaterials, nanomedicine, musculoskeletal infection, toxicology and the relationship between environmental exposure and human health.

Marking the third major distinction he has received during his two-decade tenure at WVU, this selection highlights both his individual accomplishments and the growing national impact of orthopaedic research at WVU.

In 2018, Li was elected into the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering College of Fellows, and in 2025, he was elected into the International Combined Orthopaedic Research Societies College of Fellows.

Since coming to WVU in 2005, Li has published more than 120 peer-reviewed articles and mentored more than 100 trainees.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to research and education, Li has also been elected to the International Combined Orthopaedic Research Societies and the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.

He has also been recognized as a Top Scholar by ScholarGPS in recent years, ranking among the top 0.5% of scholars worldwide in overall all fields, medicine and orthopaedics.
