The Open Enrollment period for Plan Year 2027 for West Virginia University benefits-eligible faculty and staff is underway and will run through May 15.

Open Enrollment is your only opportunity to add, drop or make changes to many of your benefits for the 2027 plan year without a qualifying life event.

All changes for Plan Year 2027 will be effective July 1.

For Plan Year 2027, both PEIA and The Health Plan plans will experience employee premium increases averaging 3% and an average increase of $200 to the “Family with Spousal Surcharge” coverage type as approved by the PEIA Finance Board.

PEIA PPB Plan D will be discontinued, PEIA PPB plans A, B and C will be renamed and a new PEIA plan will be introduced. Dental insurance administered by Mountaineer Flexible Benefits will also be experiencing employee premium increases.

This is a changes-only enrollment except if you are currently enrolled in PEIA PPB Plan D health insurance. If you do not make any changes, your current benefits will be carried over to the new plan year, except for PEIA PPB Plan D.

We encourage you to review your current coverages, learn what’s new for Plan Year 2027, evaluate your benefit needs and make changes to your benefits.

The following are tips on getting started:

Start your Open Enrollment journey on the WVU Benefits Open Enrollment website. Learn about the benefits WVU offers to you and your family, changes to benefit plans and premiums for the new plan year, instructions on making changes and much more.

Take advantage of Open Enrollment events and in-person opportunities. Attend an in-person event or virtual opportunity to learn more about changes and ask questions during Open Enrollment, including walk-in opportunities with the WVU benefits team and PEIA benefits fairs across the state. View the schedule at the WVU Benefits Open Enrollment website.

Utilize benefit administrator guides and resources. The PEIA Shopper’s Guide provides health insurance plan information from PEIA and The Health Plan, including plan benefits and cost, coverage types, salary tiers and premiums, as well as life insurance information. The Mountaineer Flexible Benefits Guide and interactive Mountaineer Flexible Benefits Explorer tool provide information on dental, vision, hearing and other voluntary benefits, including plan benefits and premiums.

Visit benefit administrator portals to make changes or confirm your information. You’ll make most Open Enrollment benefit changes in two benefit administrator portals, which include the Public Employees Insurance Agency Manage My Benefits portal for health and life insurance and Mountaineer Flexible Benefits for dental, vision, hearing and other voluntary benefits.

Be sure to finalize any changes in these portals by the Open Enrollment deadline of May 15.
