To comply with the License Plate Recognition system used by the WVU Parking Management team, vehicles must be parked with their license plate visible from the drivable aisles of University parking lots.
The LPR system utilizes cameras installed on patrol vehicles to scan license plate information to ensure the vehicle has a permit or paid short-term parking.
If your vehicle has only a rear license plate, you must park with the front of your vehicle facing into the space. This means you should not back into parking spaces or pull through, as doing so may block the view of your license plate.
However, if you purchased a front vanity plate from the Parking Management Office, it can be displayed on the front of your vehicle so your vehicle information remains accessible to the LPR system any way the vehicle is parked.
Vanity plates are available for purchase for $20 at the Parking Management Office located in Mountaineer Station, open Monday through Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. The office is a cashless location. Payments can be made by credit or debit card.
Vehicles violating the LPR guidelines may be subject to citation.
