Morgantown faculty and instructors across all disciplines are invited to join a new community focused on the professional development of graduate teaching assistants which will meet from December to May.
Many of our courses depend on graduate teaching assistants to teach and mentor undergraduate students, and this group will shift the focus from what’s being taught to who’s teaching — our graduate teaching assistants.
Together, we’ll share resources, explore strategies and collaborate on ways to support graduate teaching assistants as they grow in their teaching roles. Strengthening their professional development not only enhances their pedagogical skills and future career prospects, but also improves learning experiences for undergraduates.
Whether you’d like to enrich existing training or develop new opportunities for your graduate teaching assistants, this community offers a space to connect, learn and take meaningful next steps.
The following are reasons to join:
Exchange ideas, successes and challenges with colleagues across campus.
Strengthen experiences and undergraduate learning.
Showcase the value of their contributions to teaching and learning
The following faculty should join:
Those who oversee courses taught by graduate teaching assistants.
Those who mentor one or many graduate teaching assistants.
Those who are responsible for the professional development of graduate teaching assistants and future faculty.
Meeting days and times are determined by the group's availability.
Due to the nature of this community, those currently serving as graduate teaching assistants are not eligible to apply.
