Jenna Edwards, a student success coordinator at the Davis College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, has been selected for the November Non-Classified Staff Salute.

In her role, she guides students through each step of their academic career, from initial acceptance to graduation. Specifically, she empowers students to achieve success by developing individualized academic plans that incorporate research, experiential learning opportunities and a wide network of resources.

“Four years ago, I found my perfect fit among the welcoming faculty and staff at the Davis College,” Edwards said. “But my greatest reward has been establishing genuine connections with students who trust me in guiding their success and knowing they’re shaping the future of West Virginia."

“The biggest misconception about academic advising is that it’s just about helping students pick classes and checking a box once a semester, but it’s really about getting to know the whole person,” she added.

Raised by three grandparents for most of her life, she is a first-generation college student who has learned the importance of hard work, kindness and perseverance. Inspired by her upbringing, she found her passion for helping students believe in themselves even when the road gets tough.

“Having navigated the uncharted territory of higher education while working on my bachelor’s degree in psychology, I understand the challenges faced by students who lack a clear college road map or a strong support system,” she said. “As a result, I always remind myself to be the person I needed when I was younger.”

As a neurodivergent individual, her most gratifying experience is receiving the 2025 Accessibility Advocate Award, which was presented by the Office of Student Accommodations in recognition of her efforts to make WVU a more accessible environment for students with disabilities.

“My career began in public education as a school counselor, and my work has always been rooted in fostering a space where every student feels seen, supported and capable so they can thrive and ultimately make a difference in the Mountain State and the world,” she said.

Edwards, who holds a master’s degree in counseling and certifications in school counseling, mental health counseling and trauma, is also the 2025 recipient of the Nicholas Evans Primary Role Advising Excellence — New Adviser Award.

An avid reader who read 126 books last year, she also enjoys researching insects, singing and spending time with her 91-year-old grandmother, Patty, whom she describes as the “human embodiment of joy.”
