After evaluating recent employee feedback on recognition preferences and in an effort to focus resources where they bring the most value to our employees, the Talent and Culture team has implemented a new appreciation toolkit to recognize employees across campus.
“At WVU, we are people-focused and one component of that is ensuring that we are providing recognition for the contributions of our employees on an ongoing basis. We wanted the reimagining of our daily recognition program to properly reflect who we are as an institution,” said Mario M. Barge, chief human resources officer and vice president for Talent and Culture
The new appreciation toolkit offers tools and resources to say thanks and celebrate contributions across our University. It includes digital and printable cards for quick and meaningful recognition, a guide to understanding appreciation languages, instructions on sending praise via Microsoft Viva Insights and ideas for everyday recognition.
The toolkit makes recognition easier and more personal by allowing users to download and email a card, or print and personally hand it to a colleague.
Recognition continues to be a vital part of the employee experience at WVU. When we take time to recognize one another, we create a culture where everyone feels seen and valued. This culture of recognition makes WVU a stronger community.
Ultimately, recognition is more than a gesture, it’s how we build trust, boost morale and foster a sense of belonging.
“In my role, I work closely with Staff Council and hear from them how significant small nods of appreciation are, not only from a leader to an employee, but also peer to peer," said Sarah Seime, executive director of employee engagement and solutions. “When we take time to recognize one another, we create a culture where everyone feels connected, valued and inspired to give their best for our campus and students.”
We will continue to work on more employee recognition tools moving forward to further enhance the employee experience.
The Go Beyond employee recognition portal will retire Oct. 31.
Employees who would like to save the cards they have received should do so by Oct. 31, as they will no longer be recoverable after that date.
