Jeff Smith, an operations supervisor, has been selected for the Staff Council September Classified Staff Showcase.
The Clarksburg native and WVU alum has been a key member of the Facilities Management team since 2009, where he oversees the custodial staff responsible for maintaining the residence halls on the Downtown area of campus.
He noted that, although some may think summer is a slower time for his staff, it’s actually very busy. From May to July, his team works hard to thoroughly clean every student room in the residence halls, apartments and townhomes.
Summer duties also include preparing Stalnaker, Honors and Seneca halls for conferences, camps and other events.
In 2020, his team took on the unique challenge of working with a professional cleaning company to clean Arnold Apartments and Gaskins House, which housed students with COVID-19.
Beyond the challenges of his job, he looks forward to meeting and welcoming new students and their families to campus during move-in each fall. He said he hopes his positive attitude and strong work ethic set a good example for his colleagues, reminding them of the important work they do for the University.
When he is not at work, Smith unwinds by spending quality time with his family, and watching football and basketball.
If you see Smith around campus, give him a shoutout.
Each month, the University will acknowledge the valuable efforts and hard work of a classified staff employee with the Classified Staff Showcase.
