Omar Yacoub, a service assistant professor in the Department of English, is working as a consultant to create the first writing center at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University.

He is part of a collaborative team of university professors from across the country and Turkey who will organize workshops, practical trainings and student-centered writing activities to help prepare new tutors for the writing center.

“Next summer, I will travel to Turkey to lead tutor training seminars alongside Dana Driscoll from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. I am excited to be part of this initiative and to carry WVU’s reputation for writing support and innovation overseas,” Yacoub said.

The project, titled “An Action Research Study Based on a Writing Center Model to Address University-Level Turkish Writing Challenges,” aims to address the challenges university students face in their academic writing processes and develop a sustainable writing education model through writing centers.

Recommendations will be made next year based on the team’s findings.
