New Student Experience event management tool launching this fall

Blackthorn, a new event management tool in Salesforce that is part of the Student Experience project, will launch this fall to support scheduling for campus tours and other admissions-related events.

Blackthorn will accompany the MyWVU Portal application set to launch in August — streamlining the prospective student experience and replacing some functions now handled by the TargetX application.

For a brief period, Blackthorn and TargetX will operate concurrently. Students registering for campus tours through Oct. 31 will continue to use the existing system. Beginning July 29, students will use the new platform to register for campus tours scheduled for Nov. 1 and later.

MyWVU Portal will be used by students applying for Spring 2026 and beyond. Programs with application open dates prior to Aug. 1 will remain in Target X.

TargetX will be decommissioned in late August. However, licensed staff will retain access to the system through December, and some employees may be working in both systems during the transition.

Student Experience is one of four workstreams in the WVU Modernization Program, a multi-year initiative to redesign the way the University does business, and improve experiences for faculty, staff and students.

Today’s higher education landscape is a much more competitive and fast-paced environment than when the current set of WVU tools and business processes were created. To remain competitive, the University needs systems and processes that let us innovate in ways that support students and help them easily and intuitively navigate WVU admission processes.
