As previously announced, WVU Login accounts will be moved into Okta, a new identity management platform, on June 1.
To ensure a smooth transition, all faculty, staff and students should review, update or create a recovery email account by May 30.
This transition affects all WVU account holders systemwide, including those with @hsc, @mix and @mail accounts; admitted students; WVU Foundation and Research Corp. employees; sponsored accounts; Emeritus faculty and staff; non-Emeritus retirees with a @retiree.wvu.edu account, and former students and alumni with active MIX (Google Workspace) accounts.
Okta requires the use of a personal, non-WVU email recovery account for various functions, including account activation. To ensure WVU has the personal email you want to use, go to login.wvu.edu, select “Manage Account” and verify or change your recovery address.
What’s happening on June 1:
• Everyone with a WVU Login account will receive an activation email from Okta. This email will be sent to your primary WVU email address and your personal recovery email address.
• You’ll need to follow the instructions in that email, including setting your password, within 90 days to retain access to WVU systems. However, ITS recommends completing the activation as soon as possible for a smoother experience.
• All new accounts will be activated, and all password resets will be done in Okta. You will continue to receive password expiration notices starting at 15 days in your WVU email account, but after June 1, they will direct you to okta.wvu.edu.
• Login.wvu.edu will automatically redirect to Okta. Shortly after June 1, WVU will begin the second phase of the project, moving applications and services behind Okta. During this transition period, Duo two-factor authentication will remain in place. However, you may see either the current login screen or the new Okta interface.
• Duo will remain active through Oct. 1.
• Duo will be retired and replaced with Okta Verify on Oct. 1.
