Life insurance is a valuable tool that helps financially protect you and your family and provides peace of mind.
As a benefits-eligible WVU employee, you qualify for several life insurance options, including basic life insurance provided at no cost to you, optional life insurance and dependent coverages, all offered through MetLife and administered by PEIA.
Basic life insurance: A $10,000 policy provided at no cost to you as a benefits-eligible WVU employee.
Optional life insurance: Additional coverage up to $500,000 is available, with premiums and covered amounts varying depending on age and tobacco status.
Dependent life insurance: Up to $40,000 of coverage for a spouse and $15,000 for children is also available.
Not sure if you’re taking advantage of the free basic life insurance or enrolled in additional coverages? Log in to the PEIA Manage My Benefits system to view your plan(s), tobacco status, current premiums and dependents.
Ready to enroll? With life insurance benefits, you may request enrollment or an increase in coverage at any time — no need to wait for the open enrollment period or a qualifying life event. Visit PEIA Manage My Benefits to request enrollment.
Note that after your new hire period — the month of hire and following two months — evidence of insurability will be required for life insurance enrollment and increases. The Evidence of Insurability form will be mailed to your home address by MetLife for completion following your enrollment request.
All employees currently enrolled in life insurance are strongly encouraged to review their beneficiary(ies) in MetLife. Maybe you haven’t set this up yet, or you need to make updates. Has your or your family’s situation changed? Marriage, divorce, birth of a child and changes to your address or phone number are all important things to consider when reviewing your primary and contingent beneficiaries.
