The WVU Division of Finance is enacting the new “Policy on Mobile Devices” to provide additional guidelines for employees whose job responsibilities require regular mobile device use.

Effective Oct. 6, the University will no longer provide cellular plan stipends to employees. To compensate for the elimination of these stipends, eligible employees will receive an annualized salary adjustment of $300 (or $0.16 per hour). Eligible employees are defined as WVU and WVU Research Corp. employees who are receiving a cellular plan stipend and make an annualized base salary of less than $100,000.

Beginning today (Oct. 1), employees who currently receive a cellular plan stipend or University-issued mobile device will be notified by their supervisor regarding decisions on salary increases and continued use of University-issued mobile devices.

All notifications will be sent by Friday (Oct. 4). Eligible employees receiving the annualized salary adjustment will see the changes reflected in their Nov. 1 paycheck.

In limited circumstances, employees may receive a University-issued mobile device to be used only for University business purposes when external regulatory requirements, contractual employment requirements or specific unit needs dictate that the device must be provided by the University.

With approval from the department’s vice president, a department may purchase a mobile device for employees to share for University business purposes. All purchases must go through the Procurement, Contracting and Payment Services team.
