Faculty and staff using a WVU-managed Mac or other Apple device should check for security updates and install them as soon as possible or expect a forced reboot of the machine at 5 p.m. Friday (Aug. 22).
Information Technology Services is requiring this update to address a serious security threat.
You have already received a “Managed Update” notification, but you don’t need to wait until 5 p.m. for the update. To avoid disruption to your work, you can go to System Settings at a time that’s convenient for you, click “Check for Updates,” then select “Restart Now.”
It may take up to 20 minutes for the installation to complete.
At 5 p.m., there will be a 60-second notice before the mandatory update starts. If your machine is turned off at this time, the update will be applied as soon as you turn it back on. This includes computers that were issued to students through the HSC Laptop Program.
If you have a personally owned Apple device, ITS strongly encourages you to install this update as soon as possible.
