Faculty reminded to sign accommodation authorization letters

Accessibility Services

The WVU Office of Accessibility Services has updated its accommodation letter process for the Fall 2024 semester. This new process helps ensure faculty have received the accommodation letters for their classes and offers additional guidance to faculty for implementing accommodations in the classroom.

In the past, faculty were asked to wait to sign the letters until after they had met with students to discuss implementing accommodations. Under the new letter process, faculty should simply sign the letters upon receipt — attesting that they have received and read the letter, and are aware of their responsibilities as the instructor of the course.

Faculty do not have to have a discussion with students prior to signing this letter.

Faculty are asked to sign their accommodation letter within seven days of receipt. Any faculty member who received an accommodation letter by or before the first day of classes should plan to sign their letter no later than today (Aug. 28).

Letters are delivered to faculty via their official MIX email, and they are also available for viewing at any time in the newly streamlined Faculty Accommodation Letter section of the OAS SAMM System.
