IT Help Center to highlight popular topics, offer new way to search for answers

The IT Help Center at it.wvu.edu/help is getting a refresh Sunday (May 19) that will let faculty, staff and students find technical support information by topic in addition to the standard search bar.

The initial set of topics reflects both commonly searched subjects and under-used information.

Employees and students should log in with their primary WVU email address before searching for information to ensure complete results are returned. Logging into the Help Center generates analytics on Knowledge Base use and helps ITS collect more feedback to continuously improve the self-service resources.

Information portals that don’t require WVU Login credentials (Parent/Guest and Retiree) will appear at the bottom of the Help Center landing page, along with Research IT.

Topics will be curated at certain times of year to accommodate demand. For example, Mountaineer Card information is highlighted during New Student Orientation season.

Other initial topics include:

• Account management (WVU Login and Duo two-factor authentication)

• Mountaineer Card (photo submission, Mountie Bounty, etc.)

• eCampus

• Health Sciences Resources

• Software Licensing (IT Purchasing approvals, etc.)

• College and Departmental IT Support

• Research IT

The number of articles that can be linked to a topic is limited, so subjects with multiple articles such as eCampus will point to a landing page with a new search bar unique to that category. The number of landing pages will be expanded over time as ITS resources permit.

If you have trouble locating something in the Help Center, call the ITS Service Desk at 304-293-4444.
