A message from the WVU Equity Assurance Director and Title IX Coordinator

James Goins

The following message is from Director of Equity Assurance and Title IX Coordinator James Goins Jr. (he, him, his).

Goins is responsible for the University’s compliance with WVU Board of Governors Governance Rule 1.6 and Title IX, a federal law that protects people from discrimination based on sex/gender in education programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance.

Dear West Virginia University Faculty and Staff and Students,

We each play a role in ensuring WVU is a safe and welcoming environment.

Discrimination, harassment and sexual misconduct — including sexual assault, sexual harassment, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking and retaliation — is inconsistent with the University’s core values and will not be tolerated in our community.

WVU community members are encouraged to report incidents of discrimination, harassment and sexual misconduct to the Equity Assurance Office.

The Equity Assurance and Title IX Office plays a vital role in investigating and responding to these issues and provides support and resources to those affected across all WVU campuses.

Confidential and anonymous reporting options are also available by texting or calling the 24/7 support and resource line at 304-906-9930.

Reporting an incident will not change what happened to you or a member of our community, but it may help prevent it from happening to someone else. Together, we can take a stand to be a part of a community in which all members feel respected and safe.

WVU is also committed to diversity and inclusion and providing a welcoming and safe environment for all.

Students can contact the LGBTQ+ Center at  lgbtq@mail.wvu.edu or 304-293-9594 for guidance on changing their name in official student records and/or find more information at WVU Shared Services

Sincerely,

James Goins Jr.
