WELLWVU is working to increase student awareness about Hope Hill Sobering Center, a short-term care facility where intoxicated and nonviolent adults can receive care for acute effects of alcohol or drugs.
The Center aims to provide a safe place to sober up and connect individuals to resources while diverting them from jail or the emergency room.
Hours of operation are from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and potential guests are asked to call the facility first at 304-826-1171 to ensure bed availability and suitability.
Individuals who are experiencing a mental health crisis including suicidal and homicidal ideations and/or urgent medical symptoms requiring continuous oversight and monitoring are not suitable for this program.
Under the University’s Student Code of Conduct and the laws of West Virginia, bystanders and those affected by drug or alcohol overdoses may be safe from prosecution and may not face charges if they seek medical assistance in an emergency.

Hope Hill Sobering Center is staffed by certified peer recovery support specialists who are trained to engage with guests and refer them to stabilization programs, treatment options, supportive community resources and recovery residences, as needed.
The center opened in early October with support from WVU, WVU Medicine, Mon Health, Monongalia County and the City of Morgantown.
