WVU student-athletes participated in the Mini Day of Play Oct. 8 hosted by Get Moving! in collaboration with the Shack Neighborhood House.
During this event, athletes from football, gymnastics, swimming and other WVU sports teams played alongside local youth and shared with them the value of physical activity.
Get Moving! Inc., a Morgantown nonprofit, aims to increase physical activity and healthy nutrition habits among children in the Mountain State by providing healthy recipe ideas and opportunities to engage in physical activities and team sports.
WVU student-athletes serve as a key source of inspiration for children throughout West Virginia. These events not only inspire local youth, but also provide an opportunity for athletes to connect with the community.
“Each event allows local children an opportunity to form a mentorship with West Virginia’s finest Mountaineers,” Beckie Boyd, senior account executive of GetMoving! Inc., said. “Witnessing a small child and both collegiate and former NFL players fully immerse themselves in this experience is truly indescribable.
“My heart smiles seeing everyone moving and having fun together as Mountaineers,” Boyd added.
