One of the easiest ways to keep your information secure is by having the latest security software, web browser and operating system. During National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Information Technology Services has two tips for updating software.
Download from trusted sources. Make sure updates come only from the company that created the software. Hacked, pirated or unlicensed software often contains malware.
Enable automatic updates for the operating system and applications on all your devices. When there’s an update available, you’ll get a reminder to start the process.
WVU employees and students can install free Sophos anti-virus software on as many as three personally-owned computers. Follow the steps at freeav.wvu.edu.
